My sister started calling my niece “hippo” after she gained 15 pounds since I last saw her. I had some hippo fabric and offered to make a dress for her.

I cut out a front and back after using a onesie as a guideline. I also used measurements to make sure. Then pinned them together.

I planned on having two ties that surround and tie together in the front. Therefore, one tie has to go through the fabric. I made a simple hole by folding and sewing at the side seam. Here it is threaded through.

Then it was just connect the ties and turn over the edges.

I suppose it could be reversible, too…
